about Gary
Gruby is a fine art photographer working in the classic traditions of
black and white fine art photography. Equally fluent in the techniques
of modern archival color photography, Gruby produces prints to the highest
contemporary standards. He is well known throughout the southeast for
his commissioned portraiture as well as fine art botanicals.
Gruby has also been a successful commercial photographer for over 25 years, working with regional and national companies such as Russell Athletic, CNN, US Franchise Systems, Hawthorne Inn & Suites, Microtel, Delta Airlines, Kelloggs, Kroger and Compass Real Estate to name just a few. His extensive experience and detailed pre-production skills have earned the studio a reputation for streamlined and efficient productions, often with beautiful, unusual lighting solutions. Gruby’s photographic portraits and botanical prints are in collections across the United States and selections from his botanical series have recently won several awards in the fine art photography competition at the annual Atlanta Southeastern Flower Show -the largest flower show in the Southeast. His awards include several 1st place ribbons and the top honor -“Best In Show.” He has also garnered the top award in “Slow Exposures 2006”, with jurors Debbie Fleming Caffery, a 2005 recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and Julian Cox, Curator of Photography at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Ga. Gary began his self-taught career over 20 years ago with the study of black & white and mentored under two master craftsmen who passed down to him the skill and knowledge of fine black and white photography and archival printing. Recently, he has completed the “Complete Digital Workflow” course at Cone Editions in Vermont, under Jon Cone who has been heralded by CAMERA ARTS as well as FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY as the guru of contemporary archival printing techniques. Today,
Gary works from his Atlanta/Midtown studio as well as his studio in historic
Senoia, GA, 34 miles south of Atlanta. Archival prints, in various sizes,
are available for sale, matted or framed. Each is printed and prepared
on hahnemuhle 100% cotton rag paper with archival color inks and carbon
inks for all his black & white printing. |
